Bijou

Stephanie says Bijou rolled into her life…literally! And their lives have been full of bliss ever since! Enjoy this sweet love story:

Bijou

I have quite the obsession with dogs and with Muttville. I had just moved to San Francisco as a student and was living alone. I was seriously missing my four legged fur-babies that were living with my parents in San Jose. Each day, I would go to Muttville’s website and scroll through each page of wonderful dogs, particularly drawn to the dogs with special needs. One lucky day, I scrolled upon Miss Bijou’s picture — a small poodle with a seriously funny hair-do, two working legs and two mermaid legs, and a wheelchair. I watched a video of her running up a hill with her little wheels and I knew immediately I had to meet her.

Bijou and I met back in the summer of 2012 and it was love at first sight. After long consideration, I made a decision to care for her for the rest of her life. Since that decision, I have had no regrets. She has been my motivation and my best friend. I bring her everywhere with me and feel a heartbreak every time I can’t take her with me. She reminds me how strong anyone or anything can be, despite their size or disability. She actually really doesn’t let her disability get in the way. She can keep up with any big dog as she zooms past them fast with her little wheels! She does handstands to drink water and she runs around the floor without her wheels. I didn’t realize how much work it was to have a special needs fur baby (she needs to be expressed every couple hours and given medicine), but I also didn’t realize how much I would love it. Bijou has brought a smile to the face of every person who meets her.

It’s safe to say, this little senior rolled into my life and has made my life so much brighter. She is now 13 years young and still as youthful as ever. Thank you Muttville for rescuing her and allowing me to give her a forever home. Check out her instagram for recent pictures at bijous_world
