Billy Boy

You’ve heard of foster failures. Did you know we also have transport failures? Thanks to Robbie, one of Muttville’s own, whose failure ended up becoming a success named Billy Boy:

Billy Boy – The Story of a Transporter Failure
by Robbie Lee

As luck would have it, I received an email from Muttville to see if I could transport an overweight, chubby, cutie, pattotie, Pomeranian, from Placerville SPCA, who had been abused/tortured by some neighborhood kids. SPCA contacted Muttville to step in, as this little guy, had a partially collapsed trachea, overweight, exsessive cough and other health issues, and SPCA worried of his adoptability. Of course they knew of the Magic of Muttville and that they would find this little chubby guy a great home. I was instructed to transport this guy to Sherri’s house, where dogs are sometimes fostered to assess their condition and get extra special care when there are extenuating health issues etc. I was very excited that I was going to be a “transporter” for Muttville.

The transporter from SPCA rolled up, opened the door and out popped the fattest, little Pomeranian; so plump it felt like his belly would pop! He was so excited and funny. I knew immediately that he was a really special guy. He was quite anxious and panting a lot on the drive. I wanted to
comfort the little pom but knew it was not safe to have him on my lap, so I stuck my fingers in the crate and he began to lick them. This really helped him from the constant panting and the little whining he was doing. Whenever he would start, I just stuck my fingers right back in and he’d lick away!

After an hour and half drive, we all arrived at Sherri’s house and boy oh boy, was the mutt house hold excited. No one could believe how cute he was and Sherri knew too how special this little guy was.

How could this little guy be so happy after what he went through!?? Sherri said, “What should we call him?” I said, “How about Billy?” (After my special 87 year old human friend Billy) She replied, “Yes! Billy Boy”. Billy Boy remained at Mutt Mansion for the next couple months getting healthy, on the right medications to help with his cough and lose some weight. He was a whopping 18.5 pounds when he arrived in San Franisco.

My special needs clumber boy was healing nicely from his knee surgeries and slowly gained more access to the house. I noticed he didn’t do that well alone all day and started thinking about getting him a brother. Well I couldn’t think of any better cutie pie to adopt then, yes, you guessed it, Billy Boy.

Billy Boy was down to 14.4 pounds when he left Muttville and is now at 11.5 pounds. He is doing very well and he and his big brother are learning a lot from each other.
What a great 2014 and how lucky that I got to transport Billy Boy, name him, and adopt him… a true “meant to be”. Thank you Muttville from all of us and the best new year to you everyone at Muttville!!
