The story of Taiko

Most of us don't know truly what it's like to be hungry, let alone to be at death's door from starvation.

Taiko

Poor Taiko knew that kind of hunger, arriving at Muttville from Los Angeles weighing only 35 pounds. At his size and aged about 11 years, a male Chow like him should have weighed 55 pounds.

Most dogs, if they live long enough to be seniors, come from a domestic situation. At some point in time they have probably had a home and bonded with a person or a family. So when a senior dog comes to Muttville suffering from extreme emaciation like Taiko, while we often don't know the details, it's pretty certain there has been a terrible rupture in that dog's life.

Taiko

Food - a steady diet of much-needed nutrition - started Taiko's recovery. Our patient volunteers did the rest, providing love, care, socialization, and a regular routine that allowed Taiko to trust the world again.

What is so remarkable about Taiko's story, and so many dogs we see that have suffered from extensive neglect or abandonment, is how quickly they rebound, how wholeheartedly they regain their ability to bond with people, and how deeply they come to enjoy life again.

Just $20 a month - less than five dollars a week - feeds a starving dog like Taiko. Please take a moment to sign up for a monthly gift, at any level. Click the button at the right to become a Mutt Guardian today.
