Willie Wonky

#4221
Terrier Mix
Male
Small (6-20 lbs)
Status: Adopted

Meet Willie Wonky! This cute little terrier mix got his name from his long, adorable legs that we all fell in love with. Willie seems to be a very trusting and sweet boy. He loves spending time on your lap and has quickly learned to navigate his way around on carpet (hardwood floors are a bit too slippery for him). Willie also does great with other dogs and is very tolerant. He walks well on leash but does not require lots of exercise.

Willie Wonky is about 12 years young and weighs 10 pounds.

Here is what his foster mom says:

It has been such a pleasure to have Willie in our home! He’s an utter delight – a sweet, happy, friendly little guy. I just can’t say enough good things about this special boy – everyone who meets him falls in love with him, and on our walks, passersby always stop to admire him.

Despite his spindly legs, he cavorts all over the house, and he loves his walks. He has an odd little gait, but he can trot faster than I can; he’s great for a walk around the block – he’ll get you out of the house, but he doesn’t place any big demands on you. We’ve done ½ mile, tho I don’t want to push it more than that.

The only thing he really needs, besides a warm lap, is carpeting. He can’t and won’t walk on hard floors – his back legs slip out from under him. (At a bare minimum, large area rugs connected by runners could work, too.) When I brought him home and put him on our wall-to-wall carpet, he was like a kid in a candy store – he took off and excitedly explored every inch of his new place. There’s an advantage to this limitation: he won’t venture into the kitchen, which is good when you’re cooking – you won’t turn turn around and trip over a dog who has snuck up next to you. Another advantage is that he can’t jump up on furniture. He can hop up and down a curb, but he can’t do stairs. We have 10 of them so we carry him up and down – but at 9 pounds that really isn’t an issue.

He doesn’t bark, we can leave him alone when we go in for concerts, he’s a good little eater, he’s housebroken, and he’s happy just being near his people. He travels well, and when we took him to Pinnacles National Park last week, he did just fine camping. Dogs aren’t allowed on any NP trails, but we went for long walks around the campground and he explored new smells and new doggy buddies.

Willie’s a happy, plucky little guy. His limitations are minor and he contributes so much joy. He lights up our lives!
