In Memoriam:

Kiki (Ms. Mckee) crossed over the rainbow bridge on July 3, 2019. Our tough and tenacious terrier, she was diagnosed with lymphoma in June 2017. Her oncologist estimated life expectancy to be a few months to a year, if we were lucky. Two years later, we were not surprised that her cancer never spread, though age and long-term steroid use started taking its toll on her hard-working little body.

Kiki came to Muttville in 2012. She was our 9th foster. She had been abandoned in front ACC in Shafter, CA and lucky for us, Muttville brought her to San Francisco. She came with some emotional baggage – perhaps due to mistreatment – that would have made it challenging to place her in a permanent home. Sadly, the only alternative would probably have been euthanasia. That fact made our decision an easy one and since we loved her already, we adopted her.

It didn’t take long for Kiki to figure out we were her people now and she fit perfectly into our home and our lifestyle. A scruffy blonde with cat ears, she was cute as a button and smart as a whip! She was strong for her size and could jump way up high! She would have been a perfect candidate for the agility training circuit but we were afraid she might have bitten something! She loved to snuggle but she loved her independence too. She sure knew how to work it to get what she wanted, which was always food and treats. Although she liked to chase birds occasionally, she always respected our 23-year old cockatiel, Lou. Kiki understood Lou was a family member and not a toy ; ) She woke me up every morning with kisses and greeted me every evening by running down the hallway at full speed (then turning around and running right back!). Always up for an adventure, she loved going on road trips, camping, roughing it in hotels, and seeing her experience the ocean for the very first time was an absolute joy for all of us! Kiki loved life and was a much-loved member of our condo dog community.

Her last day was spent with her family, lounging in the sun eating ice cream and treats – and when we said goodbye to this life, she was in her home and in my arms. We feel blessed that we were able to let her go on a happy day. No fear, no pain, only comfort and love.

You are in our hearts always, my sweet girl, my angel. You brought us joy every day and we are so grateful for you and the unconditional love that you brought to our family. Until we see you again… Love you forever, Lalee.

xoxo

If you are looking for someone to adore you and snuggle up close, McKee is your girl! This darling girl has never been treated well in her 8 years but now, she is learning how wonderful the human touch can be.

McKee is housetrained and OK with dogs that leave her alone, though she likes to play with some other dogs and can live with them comfortably.

She is still getting used to being walked and can be a little skittish at times. she is quick learner and wants to please you so much.

Read a loving tribute to Mckee from her adopter.
