Mara

#4476
Shih Tzu
Female
Small (6-20 lbs)
Status: Adopted

Mara is an adorable, cream-colored Shih Tzu girl who was found as a stray in Martinez. Thankfully, she is now safe and sound at Muttville and patiently waiting for her forever home. Mara does great with other dogs and is a mellow, gentle girl. She loves to be held and enjoys cuddling with new people. This lovely girl will make a great companion for years to come!

Mara is 7 years young and weighs 10 pounds.

Here is what Mara’s foster says about this sweetheart:

Mara is a Shih Tzu and represents all the best of the breed. She’s smart, super loyal, very loving, and incredibly pretty!

When we got Mara almost 4 weeks ago, she was not housebroken, but she has totally mastered that skill and will cue you when she needs to go. She was found as a stray and still shows food insecurity (she LOVES to eat!), but despite that desire to eat, she never tries to take food from our Muttville mutt, and is not at all aggressive about it! She just is very happy to have a treat or a meal.

Mara likes to go for walks, but at home she is a very peaceful companion. She is happiest curled up in a soft bed at your feet or sleeping in bed with you. She is learning to like being held.

She has been spayed and had a full dental cleaning. She lost 9 teeth in that process and was missing 5 or 6 to being with, so soft wood is the way to go. She also has a delicate stomach. She gets car sick. Otherwise, she is just a great dog. She has a little arthritis in her backend and the only impact of that is she cant jump onto high furniture. So she might need a little help onto the bed at night.

She actually loves bedtime. When we start to get ready, turning out lights, etc., she gets all happy and runs between the bedroom and us, telling us, clearly, to hurry up so she can cuddle!

Watch Mara relaxing in the Muttville office!
