Knight

Knight

black labrador
Male
Medium (20-50 lbs)
Status: Adopted

Knight was a beautiful black lab held captive for breeding at a puppy mill. When he was of no use anymore, he was sent to be sold at auction (where dogs are bought by the pound). Representatives from PETA bought as many as they could, and drove them to shelters across the country. Knight, along with 12 other puppy mill dogs, ended up at the San Francisco SPCA. They were all very sad, but they all started to become more animated at the shelter, and all were adopted – except Knight, who stayed sad, fearful and withdrawn.

Knight’s behavior kept deteriorating, and the shelter was unsure what to do with him. That’s when I got the phone call. When he first came to Muttville this sad, beautiful boy was completely shut down, unable to lift his head up from his new bed, would not go outside, and – because he had lived his whole six years in a wire crate with no human contact – was very unsteady on his feet. It took almost 3 months of patient love to get him to wag his tail. Then he walked on the beach. Then he ran! I cried, with joy and also with sorrow, because I knew it was time to find his perfect match.

John was lonely, his partner had passed away and he really wanted to RESCUE a dog, one that really needed him. Knight was the one …a true rescue. John renamed him Winston, the perfect name for a happy, adored and devoted boy. All John’s friends have a saying: “In my next life I want to come back as Winston.” This sweet dog, who asked for so little and had been so horribly treated, is one of the most loved animals I know.
