Kilo and Carmela are a seven-year-old Chihuahua duo found in a Bakersfield parking lot and brought to the local shelter, where they somehow got separated. Kilo coped with the shelter just fine, but sadly his sister didn’t fare so well in there, but now they’re both healthy, happy, and ready for a wonderful new home.

Kilo’s name is short for the Spanish word tranquilo, meaning tranquil or quiet, and that’s just what you’ll get with this ultra-mellow, dashing gentleman. Kilo is easygoing to the max, and is utterly content to chill out and enjoy the good life after many years of hardship. His foster mom says they’ve nicknamed him ‘Bother’ because he’s ‘just no bother at all,’ and you’ll find this leggy, fox-like happy camper happy to sit in your lap or lie by your side quietly or jump up and go for a jaunt, whichever you please. He almost never barks (really!) and wiggles his entirely body from front to back when excited. Kilo is unfailingly good-natured, sweet, and easy.

Kilo’s sister, Carmela (or ‘Mella’ for short), is a dainty dog with a mighty will to survive. Separated from her brother in the shelter, Carmela wasted away to skin and bones, losing a third of her body weight and contracting pneumonia and an ulcerated eye. After two months of intensive, loving foster care in Southern California, she was reunited with her brother in the Bay Area. Carmela can be a little timid in the beginning, but it doesn’t take long for her to come out of her shell and show you her playful charm. She has made an outstanding recovery and though she will always have a little bit of cloudiness in her right eye, it doesn’t slow her down a bit and she’s eager to share many years of love with her new family.

Kilo and Carmela must be adopted together – after all they’ve been through, we think it’s only fair – and would be just the right fit for a loving family who will give them the cuddles and stability they crave. Both dogs are remarkably quiet for Chihuahuas, easygoing, and surprisingly issue-free for all they’ve been through. Both dogs have been altered, microchipped, and given recent dentals and full medicals. They’re just waiting for you!
