Muttville Volunteer Stacey Running For the Mutts in the 2011 Portland Marathon!

A note from Stacey S., one of our valuable Muttville volunteers who is running the Portland 2011 Marathon and raising $2600 ($100 for every mile) to benefit Muttville:

Today I went for a 22 mile training run. As I was preparing last night, I was a bit sad because I knew I was going to see tons of Team In Training folks and other groups running together, supporting each other for their respective causes and I am doing this all alone. So I decided to print out a picture of Jammy and bring her along with me for when I hit the rough stuff and need some encouragement and reminder of the great work you do at Muttville….and why I am running this year. (this is usually around mile 19, marathons are 80% mental and 20% physical endurance)

So off I went with Jammy in pocket and around mile 19, I stopped for water and an energy chew and pulled her out. Her cute little face and sweet expressive eyes were just what I needed to get me through to the finish. Its like the picture shouted “keep going Stacey”. I figured whatever pain I was feeling was nothing compared to what Jammy felt when she was abandoned by her owner, so onward I went.

Thank you again so much for letting me do this on Muttville’s behalf. Its been a great experience thus far. When you next see Jammy, PLEASE give her a pat on the head and a kiss on her glistening and perfectly black nose from me and thank her. She’ll understand, I do think she was a marathoner in her previous human life…she’s obviously got endurance!
